Description

This it a subpage of the Pirate Cove wiki guild page. These are the tales of previous journies before the amazing sailor of GuildBot. All lists here are now defunct and now only used for historical purposes.

Terms used

Captured Guilds

"Captured" meant that at some point, one of the pirates became guild leader ("captain"). This was either through the current captain leading, or by the Admirals appointing when the Captains was declared Missing In Action. In the past, pirates often repurposed the guild for another topic/focus. This is not a process that we do anymore, the number of guilds became too big. Nowadays the majority of captures are performed by @GuildBot.

Mutiny Guilds

"Mutiny" meant that the pirates assisted in a change of captain of a ship ("guild").

Sunk Guilds

"Sunk" means that the guild was deleted. In the past it sometimes meant the guild was privatised, however it been useful to separate the terms. Often before a guild is Sunk, Last Rites are read to the guild to ensure no one wishes to keep the guild active.

In Pirate English, if the guild is described as "destroyed", "wrecked", "shot to smithereens", etc., that means it got deleted. If it is described as being sunk in one piece, e.g., "scuttled", "foundered", "submerged", etc., that means it was turned into a private guild (but will most likely be inactive in the future). If it "was turned into a submarine", it was turned into a private guild with an active guild leader intending to use the guild (often with a different name and topic). This terminology is just for the fun of gamification, though - it's not an exact science, please don't take it too seriously!

Previous Guild In Our Sights

This is/was a list of guilds we were watching because at first sight they either appear to be inactive, are duplicates of other guilds on the same topic, or we might try to capture or sink them soon for another reason. (It doesn't necessarily mean that the guilds are really inactive or otherwise useless and that we'll really target them, only that we're observing them.) With the help of this list, suggestions made in Pirate Cove guild chat will hopefully not get lost.

This list was moved to Archive while Pirates work on the Inactive Leaders Lists, which are archived above. GuildBot now controls the list of which guilds are inactive, minimising the amount of sea barnacle admin.

The list is in alphabetical order.

If a guild gets mentioned often but turns out to be worth saving (or if the guild leader says e'd like to keep it) it will also show on this list - so, if another pirate finds it, e can look it up here and find out that it's been discussed before, with the conclusion to keep it.

For some subjects there are several guilds, and this list helps to get an overview on which ones exist before deciding which ones to delete or privatize.

BSD - Berkeley Software Distribution: Sighted by @Blue. Last chat February 2015, 9 one-line chat posts, active guild leader (last login February 5th, 2016), no challenges, 4 gems. Captain hailed by @tenko via PM on February 5th, 2016.
Chores (5 icons): Sighted by @Snellopy. Guild leader is @Soloana. Last chat November 2014 (prior to pirates chats). Three simple one-task challenges (dishes, laundry, trash) which contain little icons: dishes, laundry, trash created by @Soloana instead of emoticons. If @Soloana agrees to it (or if she doesn't answer and copyright allows it?), we could put the icons in the 📜 Library of Tasks and Challenges or a similar place. @Alys said "Because Soloana is still an active Habitican, I won't change the owner unless Soloana asks me to." @Alys offered help to @Soloana with making the guild more active, see the guild chat for this.
Dumbledore's Army: This guild isn't currently a target. In the long run, though, the three guilds Hogwarts, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and Dumbledore's Army might want to merge (see Guilds with Similar Topics), but at the moment all three are active and have active guild leaders, so it's probably not worth the effort yet.
Early to Bed and Early to Rise: One of the several sleep guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). Halfway active, is only on the list because it has a sleep subtopic and could therefore possibly be merged into the "main sleeping guild" Naps of Power: Habiticans for Better Sleep. Hard to find because neither name nor description contain the word "sleep" (and owner @aaronux last logged in 04 November 2015, so currently only admins can change that). Last chat 10 January 2016 (as of 27 January 2016), chat looks full, 4 challenges, 4 gems. Not hailed yet. (But @Mara the Marine Marauder asked a sleep-related question in chat to see how fast they react, and @tenko, who is a member of that guild, zipped her mouth to see if anyone else is active there, if she replied that'd be cheating). Judging from text search, no other sleep guilds were ever mentioned in chat there. Suggested action: Congratulate them on being an active guild, but tell them about sister guild and describe merging options anyway, emphasizing that if they prefer to stay as they are, that's perfectly fine. Also mention that they are hard to find (and why), and would they like an admin to add the search term "sleep" to their description?
Fit Anime Clan: Small guild (5 genuine members) that more or less duplicates The Otaku Dōjō and the Anime Club- but the guild members said they want to stay separate, so it's currently no longer a target. Both chat and guild leader are active, no challenges, 4 gems. Hailed by @Mara the Marine Marauder in chat.
Gamification: Sighted by @Snellopy. Last chat January 6th, 2016, inactive guild leader (last login October 27th, 2015) no challenges, 3 gems. Not contacted yet.
Habit Engine: Not a target - or rather, target reserved for @Alys. @Alys said about it: "Habit Engine owned by Fragmental Stew - leave this one alone. It's for a third-party tool that uses Habitica's API and I've spoken with the guild owner (the tool's creator) a little in the past. I'll talk to them about moving the information to a wiki page and then deleting or privatising the guild." Active guild leader, last chat July 2015, lots of earlier chat, no challenges, 4 gems. Sighted by @tenko.
Happiness Projectors: Guild about finding happiness via Gretchen Rubin's Happiness Project method. Last chat October 2015 (the one before is from April), lots of chat, guild leader last logged in 12 November 2014, no challenges, 4 gems. Sighted by @tenko. Looks like a candidate for leader change (if the members wish to revive it) or deletion/merging. Though merging into what isn't quite clear: We could recommend happiness-oriented guilds (Happy List Guild!, Good Things Today, possibly Achieve, Accomplish, Aspire, etc.) as well as long-term project guilds (Long-Term Goal Accountability 🎯, etc.), though none seem a very good fit. Suggestions about where best to send members to are welcome - or we can just tell them to go search the guilds list themselves. Not discussed in detail in Pirate Cove yet. Hailed by @tenko in chat on February 5th, 2016, to see if there are any surviving crew members on board.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: This guild isn't currently a target (and is already in the hands of a pirate anyway - Headmaster @keyes is both a Harry Potter fan and a pirate). In the long run, though, the three guilds Hogwarts, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and Dumbledore's Army might want to merge (see Guilds with Similar Topics), but at the moment all three are active and have active guild leaders, so it's probably not worth the effort yet.
Korea Lucid Dreaming: Basically the guild leader talking to emself (or not at all) in Korean. Except for the language, it is a duplicate of Oneironauts. Active guild leader, one other genuine member who is inactive, last genuine chat 4 November 2015, 4 chat posts, no challenges, 4 gems. Sighted and hailed in chat by @tenko - "what's up with this guild? anyone there? there aren't many koreans here on habitica, so if you make a guild on such a particular topic, there might be no people who will need it." to which the guild leader, @Gray, replied "i made this guild just like that because i wanted to do so. i don't have any plans regarding it." As long as the guild leader is active and wants to keep the guild, we can only wait a few months and watch this one die a slow and agonizing death. In the end it will be dealt with by @tenko or anyone else who speaks Korean and might possibly convince the guild leader to give up the guild. @tenko wrote in Pirate Cove: "[...] could tell him that it's a duplicate of the oneironauts (lucid dreaming guild) or that he's alone in this guild because there are like 5 koreans on all habitica, but he seems to be satisfied with himself so far so i don't think these arguments would have worked with that guy. [...]" Not sure if this means @tenko also talked to the guild owner by message.
One Blood Guild!: Great topic, but has de facto been swallowed up by the Ghost Ship guild. Last post February 2015, previous post May 2014, altogether 12 posts in 2 years excluding pirate @Mara, the Marine Marauder's post, no challenges, 3 guild gems, semi-inactive guild leader (last login December 18, 2015).
Outdoor Corps: Sighted by @Phantom818. Currently not a target because last chat wasn't that long ago, the guild leader has become active again (after not logging in for several months), and its emphasis is much more on outdoor sports than *Perfect Day Last two chat posts October 31 and November 02, 2015, previous chat January 2015, active leader (last login January 10th, 2015), no challenges, 2 gems. No contact yet.
The Cozy Inn of the Drowsy Dragon -- Idiopathic Hypersomnia: No longer a target. Sighted by @tenko. One of the sleep related guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). A snuggly looking dragon adorned ship giving refuge to a handful of hypersomniacs. The ship's strongbox was found to contain 3 gems and no challenges. The captain, @Somnabat, was present on the deck as of January 29th, 2016. He and his crew members greeted the pirates in an amicable way, and when questioned about the low activity in the logbook (last entry written in September 2015), they shared plans for creating more entries, challenges and attracting new crew members in the near future, and made it clear that they don't want to merge with a general sleeping guild either. Pirates sailed away in peace wishing them best of luck in their endeavors.
The Iron Guild: Admiral Alys on 22nd February decree from on high that this ~~ship~~ must not be targeted, boarded or fought for, even if it appears as ~~ghost ship~~ inactive guild.
The Society of Flash and Guile: One of the several roleplaying guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). Last chat December 2015, active guild leader (last login January 3rd, 2016), 2 challenges, 4 gems. Not contacted yet. (Please don't destroy! Chat and concept are entertaining and creative.)
Team UfYH: Sighted by @Snellopy. The guild refers to the popular (Warning: Linked site contains swearwords!) UfYH website which is dedicated to providing motivation and checklists for doing household chores and making one's home less messy, and is apparently rather good at it. Though this guild is not very active (last post May 2015), it has 10 challenges, most of which people are still using. Another good reason for keeping it is that it's (mostly!) good at editing out the swearwords contained in the original UfYH website, also the guild leader is still logging into Habitica (last login January 9th, 2016). Therefore, the consensus seems to be that it should remain unboarded. If it were removed, and a new one created later, it might not be so good at avoiding swearwords, and would create additional work for the Habitica moderators. (Admiral @Alys has already looked into it and made the point about preserving it because of their care to avoid bad language.)
Triathletes: This guild is no longer a target. For a long time, it had no chat messages and few members - but after being hailed by @Blue on New Year's Day 2016, Captain @Haukur bravely fought back, singlehandedly threw all pirates overboard, and saved and revived the guild. Apparently all that training had paid off!
Tyler Simply Rocks!!!!!!: Admiral Alys on 22nd February decree from on high that this ~~ship~~ must not be targeted, boarded or fought for, even if it appears as ~~ghost ship~~ inactive guild.

Captured Guilds

This is the list of guilds that were captured before the Inactive Leaders or guilds that were captured outside that list.

The pirate crew of the "Ching Shih" conquered the Pirate Cove (formerly a fantasy football fandom guild), robbed it of all its gems (except the one in the old sunken football challenge), and made it our home port.
We boarded the guild now known as Ghost Ship (also wiki page) and found neither crew nor booty in there. It was formerly a Hearthstone fandom guild, now it is about topics related to organ (and blood and stem cell) donation and generally preparing for death (making a will, etc.).
The captain of the Gaming Addicts Anonymous guild surrendered the guild to us. (Actually they just unexpectedly made Captain Mara guild leader without any reference to piracy, but joyfully agreed afterwards that we can count it among our conquered guilds.)
We captured a Korean guild (with a Korean name which the Google translator couldn't make much sense of), put up a poster of this Korean pirate movie as its logo, shared its 4 gems among us and held the guild for ransom until brave marine @Fear came to the rescue and won the guild from us. @Fear renamed the guild Hellblazers. Sadly, it soon became inactive again. @Ariel recommended privatization in late December 2015 (many months after it had first been captured and ransomed). The pirates chose to respect @Fear's valiant efforts and scuttled the guild in one piece.
The leader of the "Challenge Yourself!" guild surrendered to us before we had even started attacking. We held that guild for ransom, too, and another scurvy (and, at that time, sniffly and sneezy) pirate named @Bloody Jenny Flint won it and turned it into The Ship of the Dread Pirate Roberts. It has ongoing "Merry-Go-Round" challenges now where people can win guild captaincy in turn, then make the next "Merry-Go-Round" challenge.
Bosun @MEmry single-handedly captured the leaderless vessel Toothpick Factory (having obtained a letter of marque from the admins) and is now captain of said ship!
We found another ghost guild that wasn't just memberless, but also nameless. After sharing the booty and enjoing this obscure hideout for a while, we lured potential new captains in from the Tavern (by challenge made by Bosun @MEmry). Now its new leader is @Castanwydden, its name is Venture outside your lair, and it's dedicated to venturing outside every day. It has a nice swimming pool, men serving pie, and occasional goats.
The captain of Conscientious Consumption just gave up and left, and since Captain Mara already was first mate there, we got the guild automatically. @Lord Vlad boldly (and successfully) volunteered as new guild captain (keeping the guild's topic), and has steered it well since!
We took over the famous old Habitican guild 📜 Library of Tasks and Challenges! The admins (particularly @LadyAlys) desperately sought a reasonable, responsible and capable new librarian - but no one volunteered. So we pirates made the gallant offer to rob all the guild gems, wreak havoc and mayhem (and possibly burn the library down), shanghai a random guild member as the next librarian against their will, then sail off into the sunset. The admins found this acceptable. We did indeed rob all the four guild gems, and even gave some of them to those who helped us burn down part of the library (i.e., helped us find and delete, move, or change some of the old outdated challenges there). Then we got bored with all this paper, kidnapped and shanghaied Breadstrings as the new librarian, and took to the high seas again. Breadstrings (probably corrupted by the frustration of having to clean up the mess we left) has since revealed herself to work for the Ministry of Magic and look very much like Dolores Umbridge.
When pirate @Sphinx started asking what the guild name "Jambiis GSD Squad" meant, we noticed that that guild consisted of a weird name, a long-inactive guild leader, no chat before @Sphinx started it, three pirates who had all joined in hopes of taking over the guild, and four shiny gems. So we handed the comatose guild leader the black spot and voted @Sphinx into captaincy - and admin acknowledged the vote. @Sphinx renamed the guild "Captivated Squad", made booty challenges, a captaincy challenge, a treasure map challenge, and then went on a much-deserved sailing holiday. When @Sphinx came back, some ideas (and various kinds of peppers) had had time to simmer in guild chat - and as a result, the guild became This is a Silly Place, with @Riverstone as its captain.
"A Motley Band of Misfits" (who were mostly sleeping and had no gems nor challenges) was taken over by a motley piratic crew of misfits led by @NightOwl, who is now the captain there. And we misfits came up with the mischievous idea to turn the guild into The Bulletin Board 📌 - a guild where people can announce their new guilds, challenges, and other Habitican projects without the news scrolling into oblivion as quickly as they would in the Tavern.
Welsh pirate @Castanwydden decided it was time for mutiny in a guild named "Killwaukee" where the guild leader and other members had been absent for over a year. And since @Castanwydden had already had plans to start a Long-Term Goal Accountability guild (as a sister guild to the popular Short-Term Goal Accountability guild), the guild became exactly that!
It merits mentioning that @Castanwydden had practice: While still being a land-based Welsh bandit, she single-handedly seized a guild named "Splash of Colorz (Adult Coloring Group)", then invited us pirates to join the fun, generously divvied up the plunder (4 gems), and challenged people to fight over guild leadership. @Gryffindor prismaticjill won, and that guild is now The Mindfulness & Stress Relief Guild. (It just doesn't count in our piratic tally because the whole thing happened on land and @Castanwydden was a highwayperson at the time - I guess that's the politically correct term for highwayman?) And even before that, @Castanwydden unanimously got voted into captaincy in the Welsh-themed Dragons of the Valley / Dreigiau'r Cwm guild (the old guild creator having long gone) and turned it into a living guild.
The Star Craft II guild looked like one of those doomed to sink from the start - so, turning space pirates, we boarded it right away. The captain silently abandoned ship, leaving four gems as their only trace - we don't even know their name now. But we hope they got away safely in a snug escape pod and reached an inhabitable planet or ship!
We shared the booty, and also tried to find a new guild leader, but no one showed interest. So we set this spaceship on autopilot into the nearest star (by asking admin for guild deletion). It was the first of our captured guilds that we destroyed (closely followed by the Job Seekers Guild only a few minutes later).
Some poor jobless Habitican created the Job Seekers Guild before finding out that The Jobseekers already exist, leaving the new guild (and all four gems) and joining the old one. @Castanwydden became captain there. Being Welsh and probably having a bit of Robin Hood in her blood, she sent four gems to the poor former captain, then set herself a challenge (with an actual task) to retrieve the gems from the guild bank. After winning that challenge, she sank the guild (by asking admin for guild deletion).
@Riverstone boarded the long-dead "Lolz" guild and turned it into Pirate Foley - dedicated to making a piratic soundscape Habitica audio theme! Contributors welcome!
Yet another case of a duplicate guild - @benoliver999 created the "Movie Lovers" guild (complete with challenge) before discovering the Habitica's Movie Enthusiasts Club and moving over there. The abandoned guild (with @Mara the Marine Marauder as temporary captain) was then called "Pirate Movie Lovers". Booty (4 gems) was divvied up. After that, @Riverstone got the guild and transformed it into a PvP/duelling guild called The Duelling Grounds which became very popular, with lots of action going on there!
Former captain @Jameson officially abandoned The Abandoned Camp (it had already been rather abandoned before that - just more unofficially -, and had had the same name) and named @Mara the Marine Marauder the new captain, and was even generous enough to deliberately leave his four gems in the guild. Four booty challenges were made and finally, after several months, all won - they asked participants to complete one of their own abandoned projects. But now there are more booty challenges to be won there because @Mara the Marine Marauder puts challenges distributing Pirate Cove guild gems into The Abandoned Camp. (That way, we can both keep our amazingly full Pirate Cove treasure chest to brag with it, and share the gems among the pirates. That wouldn't technically be possible in the Cove itself because, if a guild owner creates a guild challenge with a gem prize, the prize is always taken from the guild bank - there is no option to pay the prize from one's personal gems.) There are some vague plans as to what will become of the guild. There's a guild chat discussion going on about adding a pirate island (with a cove, a camp, a duelling ground, and a volcano) to the official map of Habitica, along with other places inviting more roleplay and being represented by guilds, and maybe a tour that involves visiting them and performing tasks there - but no one found the time to do something about them yet. Former captain @Jameson expressed hopes of hearing wild stories and rumors about that camp in the future - let's not disappoint him!
@orschiro temporarily gave @NightOwl guild leadership of the Sustainable Living guild. To quote @NightOwl, "It is on rent from its original owner, so it will not be captured, per say, more shaped into sailing form." Nonetheless, @NightOwl plundered the guild bank and set up booty challenges with eco-friendly tasks. For some booty, @MEmry ran a very successful challenge in the Tavern, and the guild grew quite a bit. Then the guild was given back to @orschiro.
Habitica admin transferred captaincy of the long-dead "Forocoches" guild to @Mara the Marine Marauder (who temporarily called it ForoNaves, turning cars into ships). Booty (4 gems) was divided, then, with lots of teamwork, the guild got transformed into the Guild Leaders & Challenge Creators. @Riverstone took custody of the guild until a proper leader could be found. A vote was held and @NightOwl became the shiny new leader.
Once, there were two public guilds named "Cute and Cool Things on Tumblr" - an active one (more or less) and an inactive one that basically just said "Go to the other guild". Habitica admin transferred captaincy of the inactive guild to @Mara the Marine Marauder, who changed the name to "Tumbling Pirates (Let's Rock this Boat!)" (using this game as a logo). Booty challenges were made - then (despite the title) the boat floated quietly for a while until @Lord Vlad came up with the idea for a Party Wanted International guild, and got the guild.
@Riverstone wandered into Camelot and, finding it empty, claimed it for the crew. The castle's jewels were distributed to pirates who proved themselves worthy, and the castle became the headquarters of the Habitica chapter of the SCA, with @MEmry as its new castellan. It's now called Camelot has fallen to pirates and been reclaimed by the SCA!.
Somehow, at an unknown point in time, in a mysterious fog, ownership of the Valley of Riddles unexplainably and unexpectedly changed and fell to @Mara the Marine Marauder. Who was the previous owner? @Sphinx? @Ben West? Someone else? When asked, @Sphinx spoke in riddles about tricky plans that unraveled over the years, communications with higher powers, and prophecies of challenges. Was it fate? @Mara the Marine Marauder had wanted to wrap up the old error-ridden Don't Walk the Plank challenge anyway... After all the old loose ends had been wrapped up, the Valley of Riddles suddenly became a lot less interesting - so it got sunk (deleted) and is now an oceanic trench. But you can still see the riddles on that guild's wikia page.
The guild named AY410014Y tieto- ja viestintätekniikka pedagogisena työvälineenä was boarded by @Dewines who then gave it to @MEmry, who divided the booty and gave the guild the much more pronounceable name 52 Weeks.
Meanwhile, the guild named MaluTVT kandi/graduryhmä (Oulun yliopisto / KTK) was taken over by @Riverstone who promptly renamed it Pirates o'Learnin and set up some learning-related booty challenges - the last of which got won by @Riverstone learning for a real life skipper's ticket. And like a typical beginner skipper, @Riverstone then wrecked the guild - but intentionally!
@Riverstone also conquered the guild Twitch streamer support. @Riverstone temporarily named the guild "Twitchy Pirates" and happily started planting trees to make an old dream come true - the guild is now named Elven Grove and is dedicated to helping to keep all those Habitica challenges in good order. (And the booty from the guild bank was shared among the first pirate elves who cleaned up some old abandoned Habitica challenges in other guilds.)
@Dewines captured a whole fleet of tiny inactive guilds at once, among them the Tindley Prep Scholars (which got destroyed soon after the booty had been divvied up)...
... and TechRaptor (also wrecked after booty had been shared)...
... and Rochester, NY - The Prosperous Nerds, which @Dewines quickly turned into the Tavern Challenge Overflow Chat guild, pocketing its gems and dividing them with booty challenges in the Pirate Cove soon afterwards...
... and The Edge (which already had a pirate topic, possibly referring to the game Nehrim: At Fate's Edge - which didn't save it from also being destroyed after all the booty challenges had been won)...
... and Michigan Technological University, which, after the booty had been shared, was claimed by @Phantom818 as their own private guild (for monthly tasks and the like).
Meanwhile, another member of that fleet, the guild Longhorns, escaped - for a short while. @Wunderkind, a long-standing Longhorns crew member, took over captaincy there from the old inactive captain and renamed the guild State School Spirit. (In the course of those events, @Wunderkind also joined the Pirate Cove and became a Habitican pirate.) A few weeks later, however, attempts to revive the guild had failed, and @Wunderkind surrendered the guild to @Dewines. It got named Guild up for grabs (was State School Spirit) for a short while, then it was deleted. (There were no gems left to plunder.)
After discussing at length what to do with which linguistic/language learning guild, pirate @Llama Hobbit became the new captain of #Add1Challenge (the old captain being inactive) and broadened the topic by renaming it The Language Hackers.
--►Technology, Games & Mobiles was taken over by @Ariel and turned into the Organization Owls. Organizing-related booty challenges were made and won, and were so useful that @Ariel reran them afterwards (without booty). @Ariel also added lots of other organization-related challenges (often salvaged from other guilds where they were abandoned), and the whole guild is proving to be very popular.
The Investors were rather inactive, and the topic was already covered by another more active guild (the Financial Discipline Group) - so @Ariel boarded them and invested the guild's four gems in booty challenges. After they'd been won by four other pirates, @Ariel claimed the guild as their own private guild.
The members of the Interneters Anonymous guild can't have been very addicted to that guild - or it would have been more active. (And another more active guild - the Digital Addicts Anonymous - was already covering the topic.) So @Phantom818 captured the Interneters Anonymous - and even challenged the wild wide seas of the internet itself with booty challenges which dared participants to survive without internet for a day. After those had been won (yes! it's doable!), the guild was hacked into pieces and sunk. Not everything and everyone sailing the internet has to keep doing it forever!
When @Wunderkind became the new captain of the Whovians, it wasn't a classic pirate takeover - the guild was very much alive and kicking (only the old guild leader was inactive), @Wunderkind was already a genuine guild member interested in all things Whovian, and there was no massive pirate invasion and looting of the guild bank. Live a S.M.A.R.T. Life (an inactive guild connected to a no longer existing challenge in the The Newbies guild) was sighted and captured by @Ariel. True to the guild's original purpose, @Ariel looted all its leftover valuables with booty challenges referring to SMART goals and then fed the guild to the cannons of Admiral @Alys. (If you're looking for other guilds already using and discussing the "SMART goals" method a lot, there are already the Long-Term Goal Accountability 🎯 guild and the Organization Owls!)
Aboard the Tag Bombs guild, a fierce fight for captaincy took place between bold attacker @Dewines and the old zombified captain @Jynxed. (There were weird technical difficulties - @Alys changed leadership to @Dewines several times but it kept reverting to @Jynxed. A truly jynxed situation!) Eventually @Dewines gained the upper hand, quickly shared out the booty (via challenges), got everyone still alive aboard into safety, and then Admiral @Alys blew the Tag Bombs to kingdom come so it couldn't jinx anyone anymore.
After the guild was first sighted by @Ariel, @Phantom818 became the new captain of The United Strays of Maverica, a clearly dead guild which someone named @StrayMav created as a fandom guild for @StrayMav's own minecraft walkthrough videos. Booty challenges (which, luckily, have nothing to do with the original topic, and more with everyday health and productivity) were made and won, and then the guild got destroyed.
There are pirates, and there are landlubbing highway men, or (possibly legal) Road Warriors - with their own guild to share tips about all the things you have to deal with when you travel a lot. Nobody quite knows why a guild with such an interesting topic was inactive for so long. (Maybe because all the members were away traveling?) Anyway, the topic sounded too good to just delete the guild - so, after @Ariel had mentioned it, @Dewines asked around for potential new captains (the old one being inactive), and pirate @Rayn the Stormcaller volunteered, became the new guild leader, and is now trying to revive the guild. The four guild bank gems are still there and will probably be used for "normal" topic-related guild challenges in the future.
@Llama Hobbit looked into some family-themed guilds - and found that the Family Guild was quite dead (and had never been alive at all). (Parents, don't despair - there are other active family-themed guilds, such as Parent Edition.) So @Llama Hobbit captured the Family Guild, redistributed its family jewels with some topic-related booty challenges, then destroyed the ship as if it were a mere child's toy.
@Dewines had had the Order of Con Congeries in her sights for months. The topic (organizing Habitica meetups at SF/Fantasy/other conventions) sounded too interesting and important to just let the guild fade into oblivion. When @Dewines offered to revamp and promote the guild a little, old guild leader @Helmsman Of-Inepu responded at first, but then became inactive again. So, in the end, @Dewines was made the new guild leader. She renamed the guild Convention meet-ups, panels and other activities, gave it a beautiful new logo, and is generally trying to revive and promote it. @Dewines doesn't want to stay its long-term guild leader, though, and is looking for an interested and capable volunteer to take that position. This could become an important guild for the future representation of Habitica at cons! On the other hand, if it just won't stir, and no new guild leader can be found, it could also just get deleted. So the fate of this guild is still open.
@Ariel reoccupied the abandoned Laravel Lair (which was originally about the PHP framework Laravel) and set up some booty challenges having more to do with pirate lairs (i.e., making/keeping one's home comfortable). With the challenges completed, the guild was deleted.
@Llama Hobbit found the Taxidermists guild to be dead and not worth of preserving. So @Llama Hobbit became captain there, cleaned up two old taxidermy-themed challenges with @Cantras's and @Alys's help, and went about dividing the booty with preparation-for-death-themed booty challenges. After the last of those had been won, the guild became a shooting practice target for pirate cannons and was sunk.
EvoGen-X (a guild about a personal development company of the same name, both apparently owned by @Pierre Tremblay) was targeted and captured by @Ariel who renamed it Group formerly known as EvoGen-X which will be deleted shortly. Booty challenges (having to do with generation X, not with @Pierre Tremblay's company) were created and won. Then the guild was xed out (deleted).
The Northmen/Northwomen of Wisconsin were investigated by anthropological pirate @Ariel (who found them to be quite comatose) and captured by pirate @Phantom818, who set up some winter-and-Wisconsin-themed booty challenges. Once they were all won, the guild was set on a collision course with one of Wisconsin's infamous Great Lakes icebergs, broke apart and sank.
@MEmry sighted and captured the inactive CFA Students guild and (since CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst) ran some budget-related booty challenges. @Merinmel Caesg applied for captaincy because one of the things on eir Christmas wish list was eir very own private submarine. True to both the Christmas and the pirate spirit, @MEmry challenged @Merinmel Caesg to earn the guild. When @Merinmel Caesg could answer most of her questions about the 12 days of Christmas correctly, @MEmry generously gave the guild to em. @Merinmel Caesg rebuilt it into a Subba Subba Submarine!, waited for the last booty challenge to be won, then evacuated everyone else from them vessel and dove beneath the waves into uncharted abysses. (The.guild was privatized.)
Baker Street Scribblers, a guild originally dedicated to writing (mostly Sherlock Holmes) fanfiction, was spotted by @Dewines who then contacted the old guild captain, @pangodillO. After @pangodillO had answered and confirmed that the guild was indeed inactive and could be deleted or repurposed, @Dewines became the new captain and cleaned up some old challenges (with @Cantras's help). @Dewines then renamed the guild haiku and made haiku-related booty challenges. Now the guild is teeming with cherry blossoms and 17-syllable posts.
@Luthien targeted the prayer-themed and very dead Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours guild, became the new captain there, renamed it Formerly Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours, and set up some booty challenges with common household chore tasks. Praying, cursing, swearing, or meditating while doing them is entirely optional - as long as you keep your home religiously clean! Some of the challenges are still up for grabs. There are no further plans for the guild yet, so deletion is likely.
At some point, @Mara the Marine Marauder became guild leader of the Wake Up and Smell the Coffee - Stop Snoozing guild. (The old guild leader either left or made @Mara guild leader.) But the guild was so inactive that @Mara didn't even notice until pirate @Blue posted in chat there to see if it was still alive. So @Mara evacuated the old members to The Sleeping Guild and blew up and sank the guild. (There were no gems left to loot.)
@Blue lead the attack on the very dead Korean-speaking guild We are the good Duck (no, it didn't really become clear where that name came from), became captain there, and created Korea-themed booty challenges. Once those were all won, the guild didn't swim like a good duck anymore, but sank like a brick instead (was deleted).
The Sugar Slayers were sighted, hailed and captured by @Ariel. The guild topic (type I diabetics support) is already covered by the more active diabetic support guild The SugarKill Gang. Pirates could win the plunder by going sugar-free for 24 hours. After that, the ship faced sweet and swift annihilation.
Labdoo, a sadly inactive guild about the NGO Labdoo (which collects and donates old computers to schools around the world), was sighted, hailed and inspected by @Ariel and @Blue. After its old challenge had been recycled and donated to the Decluttering Devils, @Dewines volunteered to create booty challenges, and was promptly made guild captain. The challenges required pirates to find ways to reduce waste and recycle. After they were all won, the guild got deleted (no, not recycled).
During the ongoing effort to merge some of the existing sleep-themed guilds, The Sleeping Guild was found to be asleep, and was boarded by @Ariel. @Ariel then created some booty challenges which were all won by pirate in their sleep. Then the guild struck a reef and broke apart (probably because the helmsman was asleep).
Vida Saludable, a Spanish-speaking guild, was sighted and boarded by @Ariel, who created booty challenges to permanently change your Dailies to better support long term health. After the challenges were all won, the guild was shot to pieces and sunk.
The Baron's Civility Parlor: Surprisingly empty in both description and communication, this guild's purpose is a mystery... In fact, it escaped the pirates' notice for a time, that is, until @Ariel sighted it. @Alys was about to light the cannons of destruction, but decided there may be treasure aboard... and there was. @Ariel claimed captaincy and created challenges for pirates to establish their own coats of arms.
While in the process of adopting the abandoned challenges there, pirate @keyes also stepped up to become the new headmaster of the rather active Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. (The last headmaster had magically vanished more than a year before.) Being both a Harry Potter fan and a pirate, @keyes is planning to keep this position and keep the school running. It is unclear if and when the school's gems will be used for challenges, and if those can be called booty challenges or just plain guild challenges (or both).
Dr. Phil's Redhawks - Talk about an abandoned ship! This guild had virtually no description, no guild chat, and an inactive guild owner. @Phantom818 boarded the guild and created challenges to distribute the three gems. Since there's no idea what the original guild owner had in mind, two of the four challenge tasks relate to Dr. Phil, while the other two are general reading/learning tasks.
Learning Machines was a magnificently futuristic gaff cutter whose crew consisted entirely of learned machines. Its captain, the only human on board, agreed that there hadn't been much dialogue activity among his crew members, and decided to yield his captainship in favor of @tenko, who used the machines to loot the ship more productively and to destroy it after emptying the coffer.
Sailing through the exotic waters of the Japanese Sea, @tenko stumbled upon the remains of the ancient floating shelter 凡才の挑戦. It was empty and apparently long abandoned in favor of the new and more sturdy shelter, 日本語話者の集会所ｶｯｺｶﾘ. @tenko successfully claimed captaincy, translated its name to Mediocrity Challenge, and plundered its valuables (with a four-gem challenge for herself). Then @tenko gave the ship to @Nae who had visited the Pirate Cove with a good idea for a new guild. @Nae hasn't gotten around to renaming and repurposing the guild yet, but probably will soon.
Bar Slayers A guild for people trying to pass the bar exam. Had been abandoned by its captain since 2013, and most of its crew had left as well to visit the Barrister's Inn instead. So the remaining crew of one didn't put up a fight, and soon after this caravel had been sighted by @Blue, it got captured by @Ariel. No valuables were found aboard, and the ship was destroyed soon afterwards.
@tenko spotted the supposedly extinct time-bending The Future Procrastinators Of Tomorrow ship's wreck, and promptly called for @Ariel to check it for possible survivors. @Ariel boarded the ship, became captain, and is currently evacuating those crew members who are still alive to the Procrastinators guild. Booty challenges might be up soon, and the existing abandoned challenge (with one participant still active) was taken care of by the Elves.
One bright and sunny day when @Ariel and @tenko were~~sunbathing~~.. err, working hard scrubbing the deck, they noticed The Fitbit Warriors catamaran on the horizon. Upon a closer look, they didn't find many of the crew members being fit, and apparently they weren't famed warriors either. @tenko took over the ship, renamed it The Guild Known Previously as The Fitbit Warriors, and cruised it back to the Pirate Cove for looting, with booty challenges running. After those had been won, the catamaran was reduced to timberrrrrr.
Hula Hoopers was an ancient looking caravel sighted by @Ariel. When she asked the pirates about it, it turned out that the ship's crew was inactive even in the days of yore, and @Dewines was a member of that crew, then under the alias @Castanwydden. There were no other volunteers to steer that ship, so @Ariel became its new captain, renamed it Pirate Hula Hoopers and set up hula-hooping booty challenges - and before she knew it, veteran hula-hooper @Dewines was surrounded by other pirates asking for advice how to hula-hoop with the life rings.
In another part of the Habitican seas, @cTheDragons and @Phantom818 sighted an eccentric galley WizardChan carrying suspicious, possibly magical cargo. They hailed it at the top of their lungs, but there was only the wind there, the ship was abandoned by its crew. @cTheDragons led the takeover, renamed the galley The Guild formerly known as WizardChan, and is currently investigating the curiously shimmering things lying in stock. Interesting booty challenges are already up (prompting the boarding pirates to say "Arrrbrrracadarrrbrrra!" a lot), after which the ship will become a great shooting target for the pirate cannons!
The vessel Social Justice was sighted by several pirates at once, however it was @JuanaTango who led the abordage and took over the captainship. The logbook had but 2 entries, the former captain went mia a longer while ago, but there was treasure left behind - booty challenges relating to social justice to edify the pirates on that concept were made. The future of the guild is still undisclosed and being discussed.
The fully computerized ship CakePHP (referring to the open-source web framework CakePHP) ran on autopilot for many years - so much so that no one even noticed that captain and crew had left the ship. They had been gone for more than a year when @Snellopy sighted and @Ariel hailed it. So @Ariel boarded it, managed to log into the ship's computer as its new captain, reprogrammed the ship to show Pirate CakePHP as its new name, and promised booty to those pirates who woud contribute to its code - or that of any other open-source project. Challenges can still be won!
The Trust Fortresswas sighted, hailed, and boarded fast by @Ariel, who renamed it Pirate Trust Fortress and encouraged eir trusty fellow pirates to build, well, trust (for gems!) - whereas its former crew had mostly talked about caffeine. (We don't know why - by the time the pirates boarded, the former captain and crew were long gone.) Booty challenges can be won now!
A foreign turtle ship s.s. Hangeul was sighted by @Dewines. E reported the sighting as a duplicate of the Korea(한국), Korean Language Students and possibly of the Commonwealth of i18n guilds. @tenko was sent as a diplomatic envoy, and has charmed the captain, @SnowCrusher, so much so that he has instantly yielded the ship to the pirates and joined them, saying e wants to learn the pirate ways of life. As the The Guild Formerly Known as Hangeul had 4 gems in the treasure coffer, the booty challenges evoking the fondest memories of all things Korean were made there for the merriment of the pirates, after which the looted vessel will become a cannon fodder for Admiral flotilla. Welcome @SnowCrasher!
Ponderize: A ship whose @MEmry was the captain of. Due to the apathy and visible lack of interest from the crew she pirated her own ship looting it from its treasure, and asked Admiral @Alys to scuttle it.

Plurk Peeps - Sighted by @Dewines, apparently a duplicate of the similarly inactive Karma Vacation (see Guilds with Similar Topics), contains a link to an inactive Plurk page. The captain was still aboard in his quarters upon sighting, last seen on February 5th, 2016, but the crew was nowhere to be found - last entry in the logbook was made in March 2014, other than that there are only 6 more entries. No challenges, 4 gems. Hailed via PM by @tenko on February 5th, 2016, the captain has quickly surrendered the ship saying that yes it is more empty than it should. The ship was plundered using No Social Media For A Day booty challenges and sunk.
Copaxone club - Sighted by @tenko, a small caravel gathering crew and a captain all using the same drug (Copaxone), made in hopes to become a support group, but never sailed into the full seas. The captain was present and active when hailed, on February 5th, 2016, but the crew has vanished - last record of their activity was from over a year ago, and aside of this there were but a few one liner entries in the logbook. No challenges, 4 gems. The captain has promptly yielded the ship making @tenko a new captain, and has left a last message to the crew in the party chat, which wasn't answered in 11 days, so Admiral @Alys has sunk the vessel.
/r/Team_Japaneseのギルド: Sighted by @keyes. One of the several Japanese learning guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). The guild's name is is referring to this Japanese language learning Reddit website. Last chat that didn't just say "Hi!" in Japanese was in December 2014, inactive guild leader (last login November 10th, 2014), no challenges, 4 gems. @keyes has led the boarding, and is now the new captain of this ship - booty challenges impending! After looting the vessel is scheduled for scuttling.

Nabors Advisory - This guild was left floating at the bottom of the guild list, abandoned and empty like the Marie Celeste. It was sighted by @Dewines who captured it the old fashioned way by simply joining the guild. Because the original captain had abandoned ship without recruiting any crew first, joining automatically made @Dewines captain. It so happened that @Veruchka M. was in search of a guild to be crewed by Indonesian Habiticans. To speed the guild on its way, @Dewines claimed the guild gems and set up the booty challenges in Pirate Cove to share the treasure with the other pirates. The guild, now renamed League of Indonesian Habiticans has set sail on its maiden voyage to exciting new shores!

Aspiring Quest Writers was repurposed after the high council leader @Lemonese declared it was no longer needed. The new captain @taldin was made the new leader to stear the ship into Habitica fan fiction, fan art, and worldbuilding.
March 2017 @Riverstone captured the stormageddon et al. and ran a number of challenges in honour of the guild. The Guild was re purposed to Aincrad.
Empty Guild was discover by the bot. The Pirates ran booty challenges for its gems and @Null (UID: 4ae4d416-8772-455d-9cd7-6e6ee0616905) asked if they could have the guild for for students who speak native spanish. Mostly for people from LatinAmerica.

Sunk Guilds

To see the explanations about what "sunk" means, see the section Sunk Guilds on the Pirate Cove wiki guild page. This is a not a complete list, but guilds that were sunk outside the inactive List.

The Star Craft II guild looked like one of those doomed to sink from the start - so, turning space pirates, we boarded it right away. The captain silently abandoned ship, leaving four gems as their only trace - we don't even know their name now. But we hope they got away safely in a snug escape pod and reached an inhabitable planet or ship!
We shared the booty, and also tried to find a new guild leader, but no one showed interest. So we set this spaceship on autopilot into the nearest star (by asking admin for guild deletion). It was the first of our captured guilds that we destroyed (closely followed by the Job Seekers Guild only a few minutes later).
Some poor jobless Habitican created the Job Seekers Guild before finding out that The Jobseekers already exist, leaving the new guild (and all four gems) and joining the old one. @Castanwydden became captain there. Being Welsh and probably having a bit of Robin Hood in her blood, she sent four gems to the poor former captain, then set herself a challenge (with an actual task) to retrieve the gems from the guild bank. After winning that challenge, she sank the guild (by asking admin for guild deletion).
@Mara the Marine Marauder tried to capture the Joueurs Francophones de Roguelikes (they had gems!) - but oh, these Frenchmen! Their ship sank before we could board it. Must have had something to do with their colorful sails. (They had a nice guild description and leader message with pictures, so the guild was made private instead so they wouldn't get lost irretrievably.)
@Riverstone decided that Pirate Island was not complete without a protective reef, and set about building one. Shipwreck Reef has begun with the scuttling of Executive Type, a ship full of typewriters...
... Mediocre People, which carried no cargo at all, but had a surprising amount of hammocks...
... FCS Ithaca, which had a decent challenge in its hold that was salvaged and traded away...
... and Under Construction, a partially completed ship that had lain untouched for more than a year, and which wasn't scuttled but rather wrecked beyond repair, and sunk in pieces. May the mermaids enjoy their new playgrounds! (Perhaps they'll learn to touch-type?)
It looks like @Dewines and @Riverstone had a hand in the wrecking of the TheProf is in guild - but mostly it was guild captain @TheProf themselves who gave permission to destroy it, and Admiral @Alys who did the destroying.
The "classroom guild" Newport Elementary grade 4 - inactive for about a year - had been in our sights for a while. When it was brought up in guild chat both by @LLamaHobbit and @Ariel, Admiral @Alys noticed it, too, and scuttled it immediately (also to protect the valuable secrets it carried - the names of the kids, some of which were probably real life names).
The public guild Michigan Technological University(captured by @Dewines who also made the booty challenges) was given to @Phantom818 and privatized because @Phantom818 wanted an own private guild (for monthly tasks and the like). So this is the first guild that the pirates (or actually, admin at the request of the pirates) turned into a submarine (i.e., it was made private and is still used).
Somehow, at an unknown point in time, in a mysterious fog, ownership of the Valley of Riddles unexplainably and unexpectedly changed and fell to @Mara the Marine Marauder. Who was the previous owner? @Sphinx? @Ben West? Someone else? When asked, @Sphinx spoke in riddles about tricky plans that unraveled over the years, communications with higher powers, and prophecies of challenges. Was it fate? @Mara the Marine Marauder had wanted to wrap up the old error-ridden Don't Walk the Plank challenge anyway... After all the old loose ends had been wrapped up, the Valley of Riddles suddenly became a lot less interesting - so it got sunk (deleted) and is now an oceanic trench. But you can still see the riddles on that guild's wikia page.
The Investors were rather inactive, and the topic was already covered by another more active guild (the Financial Discipline Group) - so @Ariel boarded them and invested the guild's four gems in booty challenges. After they'd been won by four other pirates, @Ariel claimed the guild as their own private guild. (One more submarine!)
Tindley Prep Scholars (an inactive guild captured by @Dewines) got destroyed soon after booty had been divvied up.
TechRaptor shared the same fate - it was captured by @Dewines, then blown to smithereens after its booty had been shared via challenges.
The same happened to The Edge - the guild was taken over, plundered (with booty challenges) and wrecked by @Dewines.
The members of the Interneters Anonymous guild can't have been very addicted to that guild - or it would have been more active. (And another more active guild - the Digital Addicts Anonymous - was already covering the topic.) So @Phantom818 captured the Interneters Anonymous - and even challenged the wild wide seas of the internet itself with booty challenges which dared participants to survive without internet for a day. After those had been won (yes! it's doable!), the guild was hacked into pieces and sunk. Not everything and everyone sailing the internet has to keep doing it forever!
The Mercury Guild was first sighted by @Ariel, then immediately broadsided and shot to smithereens by Admiral @Alys. (Yay for fast battles, quick victories, and joyful destruction!) Since the guild went down with all its treasures aboard, Admiral @Alys then generously put 4 shiny gems into the Pirate Cove treasure chest to make up for lost booty. Thanks @Alys - we know you don't have to!
The COWMe guild - a guild created by @John Camden and dedicated to persuading and tricking Habitican admins (in most amusing and creative ways, and with admirable effort) into re-releasing the Winged Messenger set - was deservedly turned into an underwater museum because of its great habitistorical significance.

Eventually @Dewines gained the upper hand, quickly shared out the booty (via challenges), got everyone still alive aboard into safety, and then Admiral @Alys blew the Tag Bombs to kingdom come so it couldn't jinx anyone anymore.
The Family Playbook, an inactive family-themed guild, was first sighted by @Llama Hobbit. Since the old (formerly inactive) guild leader @Angela Henders logged into Habitica again after @Llama Hobbit messaged her (but didn't answer or react in other ways), the guild got scuttled intact rather than boarded and plundered.
A guild named MaluTVT kandi/graduryhmä (Oulun yliopisto / KTK) was taken over by @Riverstone who promptly renamed it Pirates o'Learnin and set up some learning-related booty challenges - the last of which got won by @Riverstone learning for a real life skipper's ticket. And like a typical beginner skipper, @Riverstone then wrecked the guild - but intentionally!
The guild Memphis (first spotted by @Rayn the Stormcaller) was blown to bits by Admiral @Alys before anyone could board it. (To quote her, "A speedy death is merciful. And very very easy. :)" Very true, at least for inactive guilds!) Again, very generously, Admiral @Alys then gifted the Pirate Cove with 4 shiny gems for its treasure chest to make up for lost booty. Thanks @Alys - you know a pirate's heart's desire! Also, Pirate Cove might now be the first guild in Habitistory which ever had 8 gems in its bank! (Time to share them out again with booty challenges...)
The guild laranja (spotted by @Ariel - no chat, no gems) was shot to pieces without further ado by Admiral @Alys.
De Grønne, an inactive Norwegian-speaking guild for promotion of a Norwegian political party (The Green Party) with two abandoned challenges, was investigated by @Llama Hobbit, then scuttled Admiral @Alys.
The Northmen/Northwomen of Wisconsin were investigated by anthropological pirate @Ariel (who found them to be quite comatose) and captured by pirate @Phantom818, who set up some winter-and-Wisconsin-themed booty challenges. Once they were all won, the guild was set on a collision course with one of Wisconsin's infamous Great Lakes icebergs, broke apart and sank.
At some point, @Mara the Marine Marauder became guild leader of the Wake Up and Smell the Coffee - Stop Snoozing guild. (The old guild leader either left or made @Mara guild leader.) But the guild was so inactive that @Mara didn't even notice until pirate @Blue posted in chat there to see if it was still alive. So @Mara evacuated the old members to The Sleeping Guild and blew up and sank the guild. (There were no gems left to loot.)
@MEmry and @Dewines visited the Babylon 5 fandom knitting and crocheting starship Crafters of Tuzanor (yes, there was indeed such a guild!) and suggested that it could be assimilated by the ~~Borg~~ bigger and more general Knitting and Crocheting! guild. Resistance was ~~futile~~ non-existent, and the small starship got parked in a parallel universe (privatized).
After the guild was first sighted by @Ariel, @Phantom818 became the new captain of The United Strays of Maverica, a clearly dead guild which someone named @StrayMav created as a fandom guild for @StrayMav's own minecraft walkthrough videos. Booty challenges (which, luckily, have nothing to do with the original topic, and more with everyday health and productivity) were made and won, and then the guild got destroyed.
@Llama Hobbit looked into some family-themed guilds - and found that the Family Guild was quite dead (and had never been alive at all). (Parents, don't despair - there are other active family-themed guilds, such as Parent Edition.) So @Llama Hobbit captured the Family Guild, redistributed its family jewels with some topic-related booty challenges, then destroyed the ship as if it were a mere child's toy.
Habiticans on Facebook: After months of silence, the pirates were hailed by a new guild leader who agreed that having a guild to chat in Habitica about a Facebook group where people chat about using Habitica was just getting silly. The new leader was therefore happy for the guild to be sunk. @Dewines informed the pirates of the captain's decision and @Alys fired the fatal shots that sent the guild down into Davy Jones's locker (i.e. the guild was deleted). The guild's four gems somehow found their way into the Pirate Cove's treasure chest.
@MEmry decided to destroy her own ship Clutter Busters because another decluttering guild had sprung up since. (But Clutter Busters was first - and very useful!) So she generously handed out the gems from its hold (via decluttering-themed booty challenges), gave the crew ample opportunity to jump ship and swim to the handy rescue vessel Decluttering Devils, rigged the ship with explosives, and then we all admired the detonation from afar. (Looked like @that_one_girl snuck in some fireworks, too!)
The Polyglot Guild duplicated the existing and active Language Hackersguild. So, after @Dewines had sighted it and had hailed the guild leader and got no response, the guild was scuttled in one piece.
The guild Longhorns escaped @Dewines's first attempt to capture it - for a short while. @Wunderkind, a long-standing Longhorns crew member, took over captaincy there from the old inactive captain and renamed the guild State School Spirit. (In the course of those events, @Wunderkind also joined the Pirate Cove and became a Habitican pirate.) A few weeks later, however, attempts to revive the guild had failed, and @Wunderkind surrendered the guild to @Dewines. It got named Guild up for grabs (was State School Spirit) for a short while, then it was deleted. (There were no gems left to plunder.)
@Ariel reoccupied the abandoned Laravel Lair (which was originally about the PHP framework Laravel) and set up some booty challenges having more to do with pirate lairs (i.e., making/keeping one's home comfortable). With the challenges completed, the guild was deleted.
Rock Climbers (sighted by @Ariel) was an inactive duplicate of The Climbers Guild. Its leader @The Wanderer had wandered away long ago. After its three fossilized challenges had been smashed to gravel by the elves (@Phantom818 and @Dewines), the guild was deleted (using some high-quality dynamite to blast the rock).
@Blue lead the attack on the very dead Korean-speaking guild We are the good Duck (no, it didn't really become clear where that name came from), became captain there, and created Korea-themed booty challenges. Once those were all won, the guild didn't swim like a good duck anymore, but sank like a brick instead (was deleted).
Slimming World Habiticians a guild focused on slimmingworld.com membership, was sighted by @Ariel. Since the leader had only been missing for five months and since there were no treasures to be looted, the guild was scuttled.
Elijah's Habit: @Ariel led a search party to find this long dead guild just floating on the high seas (two years since the last message, owner was last active at that time (2013)). Safe to say this one's not coming back.
Hellblazers: @Fear bravely won this guild from the pirates in the first place, but it soon became inactive again. @Ariel recommended privatization in late December 2015. The pirates chose to respect @Fear's valiant efforts and scuttled the guild in one piece.
A conversation in the Elven Grove about inappropriate language (i.e. language violating the Community Guidelines for public spaces in Habitica) led @Dewines to mention that she'd seen a guild with an inappropriate name. It cannot be named here for obvious reasons, but in discussions was referred to as Ladies of negotiable affection get stuff done. Though the guild leader was inactive, the guild was far too active to even think of boarding, but the language in the guild name and the challenges and guild chat meant that, like other adult themed guilds, it could not remain public. As this needed swift yet tactful handling by a mod, the guild was quickly privatized (and, surprisingly enough, their gems given to the pirates - isn't it usually the other way round?), and @Alys will monitor the situation and communicate with the guild in future.
@MEmry sighted and captured the inactive CFA Students guild and (since CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst) ran some budget-related booty challenges. @Merinmel Caesg applied for captaincy because one of the things on eir Christmas wish list was eir very own private submarine. True to both the Christmas and the pirate spirit, @MEmry challenged @Merinmel Caesg to earn the guild. When @Merinmel Caesg could answer most of her questions about the 12 days of Christmas correctly, @MEmry generously gave the guild to em. @Merinmel Caesg rebuilt it into a Subba Subba Submarine!, waited for the last booty challenge to be won, then evacuated everyone else from them vessel and dove beneath the waves into uncharted abysses. (The.guild was privatized.)
At the request of its captain @Andrewicus, the guild The Photographers was quietly burned to cinders because it was a duplicate of the active Photographers guild. (@Andrewicus originally created the duplicate guild because he wanted to make a challenge, but didn't know he could do that in a guild without being guild leader.) The guild wasn't mentioned in the Pirate Cove before being destroyed, but apparently the pirate @SabreCat was involved somehow and helped (or at least witnessed).
EvoGen-X (a guild about a personal development company of the same name, both apparently owned by @Pierre Tremblay) was targeted and captured by @Ariel who renamed it Group formerly known as EvoGen-X which will be deleted shortly. Booty challenges (having to do with generation X, not with @Pierre Tremblay's company) were created and won. Then the guild was xed out (deleted). (Actually it was deleted more than a week before this entry was added to the list - so it's not exactly number 43 but somewhere thereabouts. But pirates aren't usually know for their meticulous bookkeeping skills!)
Labdoo, a sadly inactive guild about the NGO Labdoo (which collects and donates old computers to schools around the world), was sighted, hailed and inspected by @Ariel and @Blue. After its old challenge had been recycled and donated to the Decluttering Devils, @Dewines volunteered to create booty challenges, and was promptly made guild captain. The challenges required pirates to find ways to reduce waste and recycle. After they were all won, the guild got deleted (no, not recycled).
Post Grad Shows was originally found and reported by @Dewines who had spotted a case of plague on board (i.e. there was an inappropriate word in the guild name). Just obscuring one letter in a bad word with an asterisk doesn't stop it being a bad word, so @Alys swiftly stepped in and removed the offending word. But with or without the word, this guild was quite dead anyway (and was also a duplicate of the Grad School Recovery guild). So its captain @Hale Williams happily agreed to its destruction. (@Hale Williams retrieved the gems from the guild bank eirself, there was no booty and no boarding.)
During the ongoing effort to merge some of the existing sleep-themed guilds, The Sleeping Guild was found to be asleep, and was boarded by @Ariel. @Ariel then created some booty challenges which were all won by pirate in their sleep. Then the guild struck a reef and broke apart (probably because the helmsman was asleep).
Vida Saludable, a Spanish-speaking guild, was sighted and boarded by @Ariel, who created booty challenges to permanently change your Dailies to better support long term health. After the challenges were all won, the guild was shot to pieces and sunk.
Minecraft, an odd little schooner built entirely from cubes, was so perfectly square that @Dewines could hardly believe eir own eyes when e spotted it. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, it turned out to be abandoned. The ship got submerged.
Minecrafter was found right next to the freshly submerged Minecraft. Just like its neighboring twin it was a schooner made out of cubes, and it was also similarly inactive, looking recently abandoned. @Dewines made sure that it met the same fate as the first cubed ship, and scuttled it. (Meanwhile, a third similar ship, Minecrafters, sailed away safely.)
Social Anxiety and Depression Help, a small ship struggling bravely against the storm with only a skeleton crew of two (who were huddling silently below deck most of the time), was spotted by @Dewines. After issuing invitations to several larger vessels on the same course, the ship was gently refitted into a submarine which wouldn't be affected by the storm so much.
Pirateship Guild was a tiny sloop with a crew of four which had its home port in the hackerspace p.irateship. Way back when Pirate Cove became Pirate Cove, @Mara the Marine Marauder tried to invite them over but met only silence - and that hasn't changed since. So, finally, more than a year later, the Cove pirates sank (privatized) the hacker pirateship - which probably makes them privateers now.
300 was a guild gathering fans of the movie 300 and of all other things Spartan, like an ascetic, Spartan way of life, and the Spartan race and other obstacle races. As this turned out to be a bit too harsh for most Habiticans, the guild never reached its goal of having 300 membes, and had gradually fallen silent when it was spotted by @cTheDragons. The guild was submerged and will continue its existence in the depths of the Ionian sea.
Augnowrimo, a guild devoted to an August 2014 Novel Writing Month Challenge, was spotted by @tenko, and, because of well grounded suspicions of not being useful anymore due to passing its expiration date by a significant amount of time, got scuttled.
GW Community School was sighted floating rather lifelessly by @tenko. When poked, it moved slightly and turned out to be still warm with fairly recent captain's activity, so it only got submerged.
i'm probably on tumblr right now was a ship that originally made up one third of the tumblr guilds flotilla. It was sighted by @Blue who ordered its crew members to board one of the two other ships in the flotilla (Tumblr Crowd and Cute and Cool Things on Tumblr) and then shot it to smithereens.
Kotoba Miners (dedicated to learning Japanese) was a doppelganger of several ships from the Japanese Sea (though its learning method - using minecraft - was rather special). @tenko sighted it on her patrol cruise over the Japanese Sea and hailed it. Its captain had turned to frequenting other, foreign seas (the Kotoba Miners website with its forums, the Kotoba Miners facebook site, and Todoist for managing to-dos) more than being present on this ship, and agreed to its destruction.
Festivids (a guild for members of the Festivids Dreamwidth community) was once a very lively ship with a large and garrulous crew, but that was already ancient history by the time it was found by @Dewiness floating around lifelessly, a shadow of what it used to be back in 2014. Since the captain was present on board of the ship, the pirates only foundered it.
ADN, a guild dedicated to app.net, was sighted by @LlamaHobbit. The captain was glad to see the pirates and thanked them for tidying the seas of Habitica as her ship was abandoned by the crew members. She promptly rescinded her captainship, shared the loot with the pirates, and watched her once beloved caravel getting sunk by their flotilla's cannons.
Live a S.M.A.R.T. Life (an inactive guild connected to a no longer existing challenge in the The Newbies guild) was sighted and captured by @Ariel. True to the guild's original purpose, @Ariel looted all its leftover valuables with booty challenges referring to SMART goals, and then fed the guild to the cannons of Admiral @Alys. (If you're looking for other guilds already using and discussing the "SMART goals" method a lot, there are already the Long-Term Goal Accountability 🎯 guild and the Organization Owls!)
Learning Machines was a magnificently futuristic gaff cutter whose crew consisted entirely of learned machines. Its captain, the only human on board, agreed that there hadn't been much dialogue activity among his crew members, and decided to yield his captainship in favor of @tenko, who used the machines to loot the ship more productively and to destroy it after emptying the coffer.
Bar Slayers was a ship that once hosted a very diligent crew of voracious readers and eager students trying to pass the bar exam. This was no longer true when it got sighted by @Blue - with the captain gone since the yesteryear and only one crew member remaining, the ship yielded instantly to invading @Ariel, who upon finding no valuables on board, blew it to smithereens.
@Llama Hobbit found the Taxidermists guild to be dead and not worth of preserving. So 'e became captain there, cleaned up the armory (i.e., old challenges) with @Cantras's and @Alys's help, and went about dividing the booty with preparation-for-death-themed booty challenges. When all the gold was looted, the ship became a shooting practice target for pirate cannons and sank.
After being sighted by @Dewines, the ship dubbed The StudySpo Guild (for followers of StudySpo on Tumblr) was rendered harmless via disposing of its armor and war machinery (i.e. old challenges) by the elves, and then submerged by the pirates. Interested students might be better off on the much bigger ship The Scholars.
The George Mason University was a ship that had been abandoned right after its launching. Everything on it was untouched, even the captain hadn't set foot on its deck. Seeing this, @tenko promptly informed Admiral @Alys, who made a prompt decision to submerge this ship in one piece.
The Polyphasic Sleepers guild was sighted from the bird's nest on @SabreCat's watch, floating about lifelessly. Possibly fatally exhausted after failed experimentation with the circardian rhythm, the crew was as good as dead, having left 3 entries in the ship's logbook within 2 years, and the captain was recently missing (December 24th, 2015). It was quietly submerged so as not to disturb anyone's sleep.
A sweet aroma suddenly filled the entire dock, everyone could clearly smell it. It was the flowery, sugar-laden scent of Sugar Slayers floating around! @Ariel was the first one to notice the flotsam, and quickly established that there already is a diabetics support crew named The SugarKill Gang. She headed the abordage, and discovered loads and loads of delicious gems on board, which she converted to neat challenges for the pirates - you could receive the award for surviving for a full day without any sugar. Pirates quickly finished their tasks, and upon looting the flotsam, the ship was sweetly and swiftly destroyed and put to sleep in Davy Jones' locker.
The Fitbit Warriors warship was once home to mighty warriors of the Habitican Seas, who had vanished without a trace by the time it was sighted by @tenko. The captain was apparently last seen on board in 2014, and empty decks were echoing with silence. Hidden in the armory however was a small treasure, so after boarding the ship with @Alys' assistance, @tenko set up challenges in honor of the abandoned unit, "The Warrior Awakens", which were aimed to call forth the pirates' bravery so that they could face their most neglected, feared and loathed To-Do tasks. Gems were awarded to those who had proven themselves doughty. After that, the once formidable warship was reduced to Admiral @Alys's cannon fodder.
nyctophilia, one of several sleep related guilds (or maybe rather a "stay awake all night" guild) was sighted and hailed by @Blue. When @Blue found it floating adrift, only its captain @EVe was still alive aboard, and agreed (after discussing some pros and cons with @Phantom818 and a few other pirates) to have the ship destroyed.
Just in case (public) was a rather empty and unused ship that its captain (and former pirate) @FelipeNA kept moored at the pier just in case he might at some time in the future have a use for it - because he didn't have the gems anymore to build a new one. When @Mara the Marine Marauder told him that he could always get a guild for free from the pirates, plus he could ask someone with gems to make a new guild for him, retrieve the gems and then make him leader, plus if he had a private guild, he could have that one turned into a public one, @FelipeNA didn't see a need anymore to keep an unused guild in store, and gave permission to have it destroyed.
Asynchronous: One of the several ships in the sleep flotille (see Guilds with Similar Topics). A guild for people with irregular sleep schedules. Last chat November 2015 (the post before is from August 2015), several pages of chat, active guild leader (last login January 2nd, 2016 as of January 27th, 2016) @Veovis Muad'dib, one active challenge (owner is the guild leader), 3 gems. Hailed by @Phantom818 via PM, no reply. Scuttled in one piece.
WizardChan carrying suspicious, possibly magical cargo. They hailed it at the top of their lungs, but there was only the wind there, the ship was abandoned by its crew. @cTheDragons led the takeover, renamed the galley The Guild formerly known as WizardChan, It was boarded and interesting booty challenges were set up (prompting the boarding pirates to say "Arrrbrrracadarrrbrrra!" a lot), after which the ship became a great shooting target for the pirate cannons and sunk to the bottom of the ocean!
@Luthien targeted the prayer-themed and very dead Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours guild, became the new captain there, renamed it Formerly Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours, and set up some booty challenges with common household chore tasks. Praying, cursing, swearing, or meditating while doing them is entirely optional - as long as you keep your home religiously clean! After the challenges concluded, the guild was blown to smithereens.
Psychology Review on Gamification - Sighted by @cTheDragons. Apparently a guild that was linked to studies of gaming affects on psychology. Last crew activity recorded in October 2014, stating there are not enough numbers for study. Captain last seen aboard in June 2015, no challenges, no gems. Submerged by Admiral @Alys.
/r/ADHD: Topic refers to /r/ADHD subreddit. Sighted by @cTheDragons on January 31st, 2016. Last entry in the logbook made in July 2015, and the captain has been asleep at the wheel since June 2015. No challenges, 4 gems. Submerged.
/r/GetMotivated: Topic refers to /r/GetMotivated subreddit. Sighted by @cTheDragons on January 20th, 2016. A chatless guild with many members active, however one of them was last seen on July 15th, 2015, so this ship is at least that old. Guild leader @Curlaub is still active - last seen on January 21st, 2016 as of January 25th, 2016. 4 gems, no challenges. @cTheDragons hailed the guild in chat and by PM on January 24th 2016. Ship submerged by Admiral @Alys.
The Crossings: Sighted by @cTheDragons. This ship is for fans of Diane Duane's Young Wizards Series, however it appears that the crew members have grown up and moved on. Last crew activity recorded in February 2015, captain last seen on board in November 2015, no challenges, 4 gems. Unofficially hailed on 5 February 2015. Submerged by Admiral @Alys.

FR: Arcane Members: Targeted by @MEmry. Last chat October 14th, 2015, only 7 posts in chat, active guild leader (last login January 7th, 2016), no other active genuine member, no challenges, 4 gems. Several pirates posted in chat over 2 months period - no reaction. @MEmry messaged the guild leader on November 29th, 2015, guild leader answered that e is no longer interested in maintaining the guild. Guild leadership was trasnferred to @MEmry, the ship got looted, and is now sinking.
Siwat: A mysterious ship sighted by @SnowCrasher. Nobody knows what happened on board, where did the crew members go, but the logbook was devoid of any records of crew activity when inspected, and the captain was found at the wheel, although e refused to provide any explanation and remained silent. The ship got then submerged by Admiral @Alys.
Cute and Cool Things on Tumblr: Sighted by @Blue. One of the several tumblr related guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). Similar to Tumblr Crowd. Last crew activity evidenced in January 2015, the total activity holds about two pages of records, recently inactive leader last seen on board on January 9th, 2016. No challenges, 4 gems. Hailed by @Blue in chat on December 12th, 2015 - no reaction as of February 5th, 2016. Guild leader not messaged yet. Ship submerged.
Tumblr Crowd: Sighted by @Blue. One of the several tumblr guilds (see Guilds with Similar Topics). A guild about tumblr in general (and spending too much time there), duplicates Cute and Cool Things on Tumblr to some degree. Last record of crew activity dated on December 2014, about two pages of logbook records total, captain active on board, one dead challenge (with a recently active owner and a 2 gem prize), 2 guild gems. Not hailed yet. The ship got submerged.
Ponderize: A ship whose @MEmry was the captain of. Due to the apathy and visible lack of interest from the crew she pirated her own ship looting it from its treasure, and asked Admiral @Alys to scuttle it.
Australians on HabitRPG: Sighted by @Snellopy. Duplicates the more active The Land Downunder. Last chat February 2015, active guild leader @johnball (last login January 7th, 2016), no challenges, 4 gems. Hailed in guild chat by @Dewines in early December 2015, no response in chat as of February 2016. Captain hailed by @tenko via PM on February 5th, 2016. No reply. Finally captain hailed by Admiral @Alys yields the ship and Admiral promptly sinks it.
Social Justice was sighted by several pirates at once, however it was @JuanaTango who led the abordage and was made the captain of this boat. The logbook had but 2 entries, the former captain went mia a longer while ago, but there was treasure left behind - booty challenges edifying the pirates on the concept of social justice were made, and after looting the ship's treasure box it was shot to the smithereens.
Dr. Phil's Redhawks - Talk about an abandoned ship! This guild had virtually no description, no guild chat, and an inactive guild owner. @Phantom818 boarded the guild and created challenges to distribute the three gems. Since there's no idea what the original guild owner had in mind, two of the four challenge tasks relate to Dr. Phil, while the other two are general reading/learning tasks. Ship was sunk after plundering.
Plurk Peeps - Sighted by @Dewines, apparently a duplicate of the similarly inactive Karma Vacation (see Guilds with Similar Topics), contains a link to an inactive Plurk page. The captain was still aboard in his quarters upon sighting, last seen on February 5th, 2016, but the crew was nowhere to be found - last entry in the logbook was made in March 2014, other than that there are only 6 more entries. No challenges, 4 gems. Hailed via PM by @tenko on February 5th, 2016, the captain has quickly surrendered the ship saying that yes it is more empty than it should. The ship was plundered using No Social Media For A Day booty challenges and sunk.
Copaxone club - Sighted by @tenko, a small caravel gathering crew and a captain all using the same drug (Copaxone), made in hopes to become a support group, but never sailed into the full seas. The captain was present and active when hailed, on February 5th, 2016, but the crew has vanished - last record of their activity was from over a year ago, and aside of this there were but a few one liner entries in the logbook. No challenges, 4 gems. The captain has promptly yielded the ship making @tenko a new captain, and has left a last message to the crew in the party chat, which wasn't answered in 11 days, so Admiral @Alys has sunk the vessel.
@Ariel boarded and became captain of The Future Procrastinators Of Tomorrow (where the crew had apparently postponed chat for too long), and is currently evacuating those crew members who are still alive to the Procrastinators guild. The existing challenge was taken care of by the Elves, the vessel was looted and consequently sank.
The Trust Fortress was sighted, hailed, and boarded fast by @Ariel, who renamed it Pirate Trust Fortress and encouraged her trusty fellow pirates to build, well, trust (for gems!) - whereas its former crew had mostly talked about caffeine. (We don't know why - by the time the pirates boarded, the former captain and crew were long gone.) Booty challenges were created, and after successful looting, the ship sailed to sleep at the Davy Jone's locker at the bottom of the sea.
Yandere: Refers to a special anime character archetype. Sighted by pirates. A 3 person guild with 13 words (3 chat lines) activity in the last 4 months, an active leader (last login January 2nd, 2016), no challenges, 4 gems. Hailed on January 10th, 2016 by @tenko both in chat and by detailed PM. Submerged because of prolonged inactivity.
/SIG/ - Stands for "Self Improvement Guild". When I first took over, I tried to get the chat going and ran some challenges, but as soon as I stopped pushing, the guild died again. I think it's a good candidate for Last Rites. If, for any reason, it's not suitable for last rites, I would like to stop being leader. However, no one has responded to my post of 8 days ago explaining that I want to step down as leader and I don't hold out much hope that anyone will. A couple of months ago, Lemoness asked me to make a special exemption for the Anime Club guild and change the leader rapidly. The only volunteer for leader was a player who had joined Habitica recently, so I made them leader, despite misgivings from another player, Maurits (there were no other volunteers and so no other choice). The new leader stopped using Habitica a month after that. Maurits has now volunteeted to be leader, so I've changed guild leadership to them - the usual waiting period of six months doesn't apply since this was a special case. The full history of this is in guild chat still, although the messages about the first leadership change are about to disappear, so I've captured them to a file in case I need to refer back to them. If Maurits also becomes inactive, I'd be willing to change the leader again without waiting six months.
