The Keep: Index > The Mage's Tower > Fireheart's Notes on Allocating Stat Points

IMPORTANT: When you are gaining levels and allocating your points, prioritize allocating points to INT because that will help you level up.

Mage[]

This is my favorite class. I play with 75-80 points to Intelligence and the remaining 20-25 points to Perception (I like Gold and Drops). 75 points allocated to Intelligence is great if you're not the only heavy hitter in your party; increase INT at the expense of PER as much as you feel your party needs.

Important Tangent about Equipment[]

Normally Mage weapons are two-handed, but there is an notable exception in the Summer Seasonal Water Lily Mage Set: The +15 INT piece, the Brilliant Bloom, is one-handed, which means that as a Mage it gives you +22.5 INT due to the class bonus.

If you don't have the Brilliant Bloom (you can only buy it in summer) or don't want to equip it, aim for allocating 80 INT in your stat points.

Rogue[]

This is my second favorite class (I like Drops too, but Rogues do much less damage to bosses). Here are my general principles for allocating points:

  1. Rogues need Intelligence in order to cast skills, so make Intelligence pretty high as soon as you can. (I found 40 allocated points was plenty.)
  2. Your Strength makes the strength of your Backstab skill stronger, which means you level up faster. As soon as you feel you consistently have enough mana, add points to Strength to your heart's content.
  3. What your party is doing may affect what you feel you need to allocate. Do you have several Warriors that use their skills? Maybe your Strength can be less. Do you have Mages that regularly cast Earthquake and Ethereal Surge? Maybe you don't need as much Intelligence (but have enough that you're not left without mana if they all sleep in some day).

Notice that I didn't mention allocating points to Perception because if your Intelligence is high, then you can cast Tools of the Trade multiple times, which is better than casting a high-value Tools of the Trade just a couple of times.

How I play Rogue is: I max my Perception stat and cast Tools of the Trade as much as I want; I always save some mana for Backstab later. Then I immediately switch back to gear with higher Intelligence so that I can regain that mana and still have a solid Perception stat. The Habitican Wardrobes tool is invaluable for this (direct link: wardrobes.html).

If you're struggling with bad habits, allocate some points to Construction.

Healer[]

I rarely play a Healer. Last time I did, since I wanted to have decent Perception and Strength, I went with: 15 STR, 15 CON, 45 INT, and 25 PER.

Warrior[]

I like dealing with bosses; the hard part is feeling like, as a Warrior, I don't have much to offer between quests. The first time I was a Warrior, I felt like I had too much mana. I don't feel like I've worked out a good system yet.

As with a Rogue, I switch to high-Strength equipment to cast skills, and then I immediately switch back to gear with higher Intelligence so that I can regain that mana using the Habitican Wardrobes tool.
