Some of Habitica's Guilds use various external chat services (websites and apps), such as Discord, Telegram, Slack, etc. This is permitted. However it is not encouraged because:

  • such chat services are not moderated
  • not all Habiticans can access them (e.g., due to internet access restrictions).

To ensure fairness for all Habiticans and to prevent them from feeling they have to join chat services that they are not comfortable with, the following rules apply if you want to advertise a chat service in Habitica's public spaces:

  • The chat service must be associated with a relevant public Guild. If you are not the leader of the Guild, you must have the Guild leader's permission.
  • You may advertise or discuss the chat service as much as you wish in that Guild or in Challenges hosted in that Guild.
  • You may not mention the chat service in any other public space (Tavern, other Guilds, Challenges in other Guilds, "Public Challenges", Profile screens, wiki pages).
  • You may advertise the Guild (not the chat service) in appropriate locations (e.g., The Bulletin Board) at appropriate intervals.
  • The Guild must have on-topic conversation in it (it cannot be just a Lobby for seeking invitations to the chat service).
  • You must allow people to participate fully in the Guild if they do not wish to join the chat service.
  • Any Challenges in that Guild that reference the chat service must have equivalent options for people who do not wish to join the chat service (e.g., if the Challenge has a task to report progress in the chat service, the task must also allow progress to be reported in the Guild). Challenge participants who choose the Guild options must have an equal chance of winning the Challenge compared to participants who use the chat service.

The following additional rules must be followed within the chat service and in any references to it within Habitica:

  • Both the name and description of the service must clearly state that it is unofficial (e.g., "Our Unofficial Habitica Discord Server").
  • The chat service must not use Habitica's gryphon logo ("Melior") or logos that are similar to it or modifications of it. Alternative logos are listed on the wiki in the "Iconography and Colors" section of Guidance for Comrades.
  • The chat service must follow the rules about the purple shades that are listed in that same section.
  • Don't copy material from Habitica's Community Guidelines to use within the chat service.
  • Don't ask that people who join the chat service use their Habitica Username there (they may do so if they choose to but you must accept that they may wish to use a different name).
  • Don't advertise the chat service as being a space that safer than Habitica already is.
  • Don't claim that Habitica's staff or moderation team have given their approval of the service, or that they moderate the service, or that they frequently use the service. This rule applies even if a moderator or staff member chooses to use the service - they are doing so as a regular Habitican, not in their role as staff or moderator.
  • Don't advertise the chat service as being an appropriate space for asking questions about Habitica (Habitica's own Habitica Help: Ask a Question guild is the correct place for questions).
