Hi! Thanks for updating the Pirate wiki! Your welcome to update any of @Alys responses as well asap. (For other pirates response your also welcome just wait 24 hours or so just to make sure they don't want the edit).
I'd love to give you a hand in uploading the Costume Carnival entries to the Wiki instead of just sorting them, if you are open to assistance with it. If so, what is your process for choosing which images from the guild to upload? Just those who include an image in their message, or those with an equipment description?
It seems as though many people don't upload an avatar picture to their message, relying on people clicking their profile to see it. We could get the photos from the Party & Guild Data Tool, but that seems like a lot of work to do on a regular basis. Let me know your thoughts.
I choose uploaded images that give a full description of the costume, pet, background, etc. We can't try to get images from profiles because those only show the most recent avatar, which Costume Carnival enthusiasts change often. The outfit described in a chat post frequently doesn't match the current avatar. The chat moves slowly enough that I just pull images straight from the guild page. The Party tool works just as well, though.
Right now, I've uploaded everything up to the beginning of April (I think--my wiki profile has the exact date). Anything after that, you're welcome to upload.
Thanks for updating all the wiki images on the wiki. Please in future could you update the original wiki image instead of creating a new one. (see Guidance_for_Scribes#Replacing_v._Deleting). One of the reason is if there are any language wiki that are linked they don't need to be updated to manually. Avoids old outdated images etc.
I'll check it out. There seem to be multiple images of the difficulties setting. I'll switch them all over to the original image, which you replaced (thank you!), then put a delete template on the others.
Hi Lindsey, I was confused about the German and Fr links to "What's new 2014". The helpful links you provided appear to land in a "page not found" page. I was unable to search and find anything relevant in the German wiki, not sure if something I just missed. The English "What's new 2014" had Penguin images, so if there's a German What's New page there have been no penguin image filename edits yet.
I edited the link to German "Eggs" page in your Sandbox page, was able to search around and find that one!
I'll look at that in a little bit. If you finish the penguin quests, please do not continue to the next pet. I would like to make sure everything is syncing properly and figure out why some page links are not working.
I've got a conversation going over on my wall about a possible alternate way of doing this by renaming rather than re-uploading and then deleting old files. Would love your input.
Also, can you do me a favor and put the quest link in the table entries for the ones that need renaming/deleting? I'll probably get moving on it in earnest this weekend once we settle out the best method.
Howdy Lindsey, I'm working on my 1st pet quest template edit, still little new around here. Here's my sandbox where you can see progress so far on Fowl Frost
Main question I have regards the existing pet, mount, and egg pictures. If the existing pictures don't fit the template, should I re-upload them with a new name to fit the template?
I noticed the Mount pictures for Pterror-dactyl have the same problem I'm having...thanks!
This is my personal opinion, I don't think it would be a bad thing if the images would get renamed because it would open it up for the Mounts tables of pets to be auto generated like Equipment Table. Particular if I finally get around to allowing that for mulitlanguages.
That being said, all other wikis also need to be linked as the images are shared.
The Fowl Frost is a particularly problematic quest as none of the file names conform to convention. I suggest choosing a quest that is already standardized. That way, you can practice while I work on a solution, and you won't have to deal with stuff like this. Choose any quest except Fiery Gryphon, Spirit of Spring, Hedgebeast, Rat King, Call of Octothulu, Jelly Regent, Monstrous Mandrill and the Mischief Monkeys, Snail of Drudgery Sludge, or King of the Dinosaurs (and Fowl Frost, of course). They all have at least one nonstandard file name. I'll put this note in the signup sheet so you won't need to refer back to this message.
@CTheDragons Is there a way to rename images? I think only admins can do that.
I think uploading new images/deleting the old ones is the best plan. Otherwise, each nonstandard file name will have to be entered separately. That will require 23 new fields in the template. I have a list that I can use to quickly pull images from github.
I'm not an admin, but happy to do this. However we do need to ensure the non-english speaking wikis are edited the same way too. Maybe raise it in the guild so the other non-english wiki editors can agree/aware?
I'm happy to upload same images with new names, but having not done it before I'll find a way to screw it up...will dig into it before making any wholesale changes, might have a few questions for the experts, deal?
Can we just use the What Links Here tool to change file names on foreign language pages? Whatever we settle on--renaming or re-uploading files--I'll post a message to the Linguistic Scribes guild to let them know what's going on with the template. They may prefer to edit those pages.
@Culverg The Advanced Wiki Editing page describes how to upload images. Hold off on that until we settle on a plan for updating both the English and non-English guilds.
Joseph: The release date was dependent on an entry for the What's New field. I've reversed it. If you enter only the date without a link, it will show up. You can link directly to the specific blog. The general link was put there as a placeholder. The documentation now outlines how to do that.
Taldin: The scroll bar is now gone. I forgot to encode a special character, and it threw that section off.
I looked at A Tangled Yarn, but the mount names aren't compatible with the template. (Sorry - I hadn't read Beyond the Classic Editor at that time and assumed mount names used the same format as pet names). Is there a tag I can add to the images to ask an admin to rename them, or do you think I should reload them and mark the old ones for deletion?
