Your Life, The Role Playing Game

Welcome

Learn how to play Habitica, an open-source habit building program that treats your life like a Role Playing Game. This wiki is written and maintained by the players of Habitica. Please join us!

Getting Started

After you finish Justin the Guide's Tour and delete the sample tasks, you can begin your Habitica adventure in three simple steps.

Step 1: Enter Tasks

First, enter a few tasks. You can add more later as you think of them.

1a. Set up To Do's

Enter tasks you do once or rarely in the To Do's column, one at a time. You can click the pencil to edit them and add checklists, due dates, and more!

1b. Set up Dailies

Enter activities you need to do daily or on a particular day of the week in the Dailies column. Click the item's pencil icon to 'edit' the day(s) of the week it will be due. You can also make it due on a repeating basis, for example, every 3 days.

1c. Set up Habits

Enter habits you want to establish in the Habits column. You can edit the Habit to change it to just a good habit (+) or a bad habit (-).

1d. Set up Rewards

In addition to the in-game Rewards offered, add activities or treats which you want to use as a motivation to the Rewards column. It's important to give yourself a break or allow some indulgence in moderation!

Bonus: If you need inspiration on which tasks to add, see the Sample Habits, Sample Dailies, Sample To Do's, and Sample Rewards pages.

Step 2: Gain Points by Doing Things in Real Life

Now, start tackling your goals from the list! As you complete tasks and check them off in Habitica, you will gain Experience, which helps you level up, and Gold, which allows you to purchase Rewards. If you fall into bad habits or miss your Dailies, you will lose Health. In that way, the Habitica Experience and Health bars serve as a fun indicator of your progress toward your goals. You'll start seeing your real life improve as your character advances in the game.

Step 3: Customize and Explore Habitica

Once you're familiar with the basics, you can get even more out of Habitica with these nifty features:

Organize your tasks with tags (edit a task to add them).
Customize your avatar under User Icon.
Buy your equipment under Rewards and change it under Inventory > Equipment.
Connect with other users via the Tavern.
After completing your second task, hatch pets by collecting eggs and hatching potions. Feed them to create mounts.
Form a party with your friends under Party to stay accountable and earn a Quest scroll.
At level 10: Choose a particular class and then use class-specific skills (levels 11 to 14).
Defeat monsters and collect objects on quests (you will be given a quest when you join and at various levels).

Shiny Seeds Now Available!

Throw a Shiny Seed at your friends and they will turn into a cheerful flower until their next cron! You can buy the Seeds in the Seasonal Shop for gold. Plus, if you get transformed by a Shiny Seed, you'll receive the Agricultural Friends badge!

Don't want to be a flower? Just buy some Petal-Free Potion from your Rewards column to reverse it.

The Seasonal Edition Shimmer Hair Colors and Pastel Skin Set are now available for purchase in the User menu > Edit Avatar! These skin sets will only be available to purchase until 11:59 PM US EDT on April 30th, and then they will disappear from the shop until the next Spring Fling. NEW MUSHROOM POTION QUEST AND THE RETURN OF PAST APRIL FOOL'S GOODIES

Moody Mushroom Potion Quest!

It’s been a rainy spring in Habitica and the ground around the stables is spongy and damp. You notice quite a few mushrooms have appeared along the wooden stable walls and fences. There’s a fog hanging about, not quite letting the sun peek through, and it’s a bit dispiriting.

Out of the mist you see the outline of the April Fool, not at all his usual bouncy self.

”I’d hoped to bring you all some delightful Fungi Magic Hatching Potions so that you can keep your mushroom friends from my special day forever,” he says, his expression alarmingly unsmiling. “But this cold fog is really getting to me, it’s making me feel too tired and dismal to work my usual magic.”

Help the April Fool save Habitica from a mushy fate by cheering up the the boss of the brand-new Moody Mushroom Quest! It’s available in the Quest Shop from now until April 30 at 11:59 PM US EDT.

Past April Fool's Goodies!

Garden Potions and Tea Shop Potions have also returned. You can find all these potions in the Market until April 30 at 11:59 PM US EDT. Keep in mind that these pets also do not have mount forms when deciding how many to purchase.

The Virtual Pet Magic Hatching Potion Quest and the Confection Potion Quest are also purchasable from the Quest Shop until 11:59 PM US EDT on April 30! APRIL BACKGROUNDS AND ENCHANTED ARMOIRE ITEMS!

We’ve added three new backgrounds to the Background Shop! Now your avatar can hang out by a Wall with Flowering Vines, bask in the glow of a Forest Sunset, and get your hands dirty in the Container Garden. Check them out under User Icon > Backgrounds on web and Menu > Inventory > Customize Avatar on mobile!

April 2024 Resolution Success Challenge and New Take This Challenge

The Habitica team has launched a special official Challenge series! These Challenges are designed to help you build and maintain goals that are destined for success and then stick with them as the year progresses. For this month's Challenge, Gather Your Party, we're focusing on finding encouraging allies to help you gain accountability for your goals!! It has a 25 Gem prize, which will be awarded to five lucky winners on May 1.

THE APRIL FOOL ARRIVES IN HABITICA!

The denizens of Habitica peer anxiously at their calendars as the first of April dawns. It’s a lovely spring day and the ground is slightly damp from recent rain.

Suddenly, up from the very ground of the flowery fields around Habit city rises the Master of Rogues, the April Fool! He’s popped up out of nowhere. He’s really outdone himself with this entrance!

“Good day Habiticans! I don’t think I need to remind you what delightful occasion graces us this day! I must admit this year I was a bit stumped as to how to bring a new and thrilling surprise, but I’ll never pass up a chance to prove that I’m Habitica’s #1 Fun Guy. I hope you have mush room in your stable…”

Everyone’s pets have turned into different fungi! There’s a whole rainbow of colorful and strange mushrooms to share the holiday with your avatar. If you are on mobile and don’t see the fungi pets, try force closing and reopening!

Equipping different pets will show different fungi pet designs. Have fun discovering them all and be sure to check out the April Fool’s Social Media Challenge for a fun chance to share your new pets, win gems, and have your avatar shared on Habitica’s official social media accounts!
